Now ‘Lucknow Super Giants’ in IPL: Franchisee owner Sanjeev Goenka

Sanjeev Goenka (Left) has purchased the Indian Premier League team for Rs 7090 crore. KL Rahul will be in charge of the team. One of the two new teams set to debut in the IPL in 2022 has been named. Sanjeev Goenka, the owner of the Lucknow franchise, has announced that his team will be known as the Lucknow Super Giants. According to Goenka, the team was named based on the results of a public awareness campaign.

This isn’t the first time Goenka has purchased an IPL franchise. He was also the owner of the Pune Super Giants, a professional football team that competed in the 2016 and 2017 seasons. The Chennai and Rajasthan teams were then banned for two years due to a variety of irregularities, including spot-fixing, and were replaced in the league by two new teams. Pune Super Giants was one of these teams.

The team paid Rs 7090 crore for the property.

The RP Sanjeev Goenka Group has made a large bid of Rs 7090 to purchase the Lucknow Franchisee. In October, the auction was held. Ahmedabad has another team. CVC Capital, a global private equity firm, purchased it.

KL Rahul, the star cricketer of Team India, has been named captain of the Lucknow franchise for the upcoming season. Last season, Rahul was a member of the Punjab Kings. For Rs 17 crore, Lucknow has acquired Rahul. Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Vishnoi, among others, are also members of the team. The remaining players will be purchased at a mega auction in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13.
