Team India: 4 players including Pujara, Rahane out of Test team

On Saturday, the Indian team for the Test series against Sri Lanka was announced. Senior players Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane, as well as Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha, have been dropped from the team, and Rohit Sharma has been named the new captain for the Test.

Since 2020, Pujara Rahane’s bat hasn’t run.

The South Africa tour did not go well for Pujara and Rahane. With the exception of the Africa tour, neither of the experienced players has performed much since 2020. As a result, both were kicked out of the team ahead of the upcoming Sri Lanka series.

Apart from these two players, Ishant Sharma, the fast bowler, and Wriddhiman Saha, the wicketkeeper, have also been dropped from the Test team. For some time, Ishant has struggled with poor form and fitness, while Saha has been replaced by young KS Bharat.

Domestic cricket should be played, according to the chief selector.

India has officially entered the transition phase, according to Chief Selector Chetan Sharma, who announced the team. The Test team is missing Rahane, Pujara, Ishant, and Saha. It’s now time to rally behind Vihari, Gill, and Shreyas.

We have requested Pujara, Rahane, Saha, and Ishant to play in the Ranji Trophy, he added. We’ve told Rahane-Pujara that they won’t be considered for the next two Test matches. We’re not going to shut the doors on anyone. I’m hoping he comes back strong, scoring runs, taking wickets, and playing for his country.

Both are looking for opportunities to run.

For a long time, both Pujara and Rahane have been out of form. Pujara has only scored 810 runs in 16 Tests since January 2021, averaging 27.11. It hasn’t even been a century. Rahane, on the other hand, has a lower batting average (19.95) and has scored 547 runs. He’s been around for a century. Pujara scored 124 runs in six innings on the Africa tour, while Rahane only scored 136 runs. The team’s vice-captain has also been removed from Rahane.

Saha-Ishant had already been ruled out of the XI.

Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman, on the other hand, were running out of playing XI before Saha. Both players did not get a chance to play a single match in the three-match Test series against South Africa. Rishabh Pant takes over the role of keeping the team together in place of Saha. In place of Saha, young KS Bharat has been added to the team. Bharat has a long history of success in domestic cricket and can bat anywhere in the order.

When it comes to Ishant, his performance was also average. Last year, the veteran fast bowler averaged 32.71 and took 14 wickets in eight Test matches. Ishant was not even fit after the arrival of Mohammad Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Navdeep Saini in Team India, aside from Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.
