ukraine: zelensky appeals to israel for help
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky urged Israel to take a tougher stance against Russia on Sunday, comparing Russia’s invasion of his country to Nazi Germany’s actions.
Zelensky told Israeli lawmakers that it was time for Israel, which has emerged as a key negotiator between Ukraine and Russia, to choose sides. Israel, he said, should follow the lead of its Western allies in imposing sanctions on Russia and providing arms to Ukraine.
Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Zelensky, is working on a “final solution” against Ukraine. During World War II, Nazi Germany coined the phrase “Final Solution” to describe the planned extermination of six million Jews.
Zelensky, a devout follower of Judaism, also claimed that a Russian missile had struck Babi Yar. Babi Yar is a Holocaust memorial in Ukraine dedicated to the Jews who perished during the 1941 genocide.
